Wednesday, October 12

Baby Boards:
Hellooo Peets Pumpkin Spice Latte with an add shot :)
Nails and skin in the morning and hair in the afternoon.  I really like doing nails and skin first because it gets me in the zone for the three or so hours of hair operations.  Although this is the preferred order of operations, I know this is not necessarily how it will happen at the real State Board Exam, so I am improving on being comfortable doing them in whichever order. The goal today is to get 100 on skin and nails.  I have those down.  The first time we took Baby Boards, I scored 100 on hair, but I wasn't as happy with my results the second time around.  I just wasn't on my game.  The goal is always to get 100, but if I get a 90 today, I will be extremely pleased.  :)
I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes!  Wish me luck!  :)

...The Results are in!
Passed skin and nails with flying colors and got at 95% on hair!  Wooooo!
Major shout out to everyone who took the Boards today.  Doesn't it feel awesome to see the hard work pay off?!  Keep it up!  ;)

Monday, October 12

I believe this is an appropriate quote for the week :
"Let me know when your whole life goes up in smoke.  Means its time for a promotion"
Nigel, The Devil Wears Prada  :)

Good Morning, all!
Be sure to check out all the new videos I'm posting.  Slide show is up from Free Hugs Day :)

Gearing up for a busy week!
Phase Two tryouts after school today:
Phase Two is an honors program at SFIEC that allows the student to work on the floor three whole days instead of just one whole day.  It provides for more salon reality experience before we graduate.  Maritza is my model and I am so excited!  Going to be doing a square one length with round layers and a great blowout :)
          Baby Boards on Wednesday:
Every few months, we take a mock State Board Exam on hair, nails and skin with live models.  It is all day testing and we are all completely pooped when the day is over so I look forward to hittin' the hay early tomorrow night!
Meeting with photographers for our Photo shoot on Friday:
We need to bring in inspirational photos and have our individual themes solidified so we can discuss lighting and backdrops with Jacob and Alex.  This is also their (along with Jeannes) chance to help us tweak our idea if need be.  I can not WAIT for the 28th at 8am!  Heather is my model and she is awesome!

Design Team:
World of Dance!  on Saturday afternoon from 3 to 9.

On the Floor:
I had a great cut and color client today referred to me by Brittany.  She was SO sweet.  She looooved the end result and is coming back to me in three weeks!

On the Home Front:
A friend bought me pizza and beer after a rough day.  It made me remember that we all need a challenging day here or there to bring us back and remind us of whats really important and that getting dragged down by nonsense is exactly that.  ...Nonsense.

You can get bitter, or you can get better  <3

Tuesday, October 5

Good Morning, fellow beauty school goers!
Here is a little something to start your day off right :)

Great Day - Paul McCartney

In the Classroom:
Diversion:
"A channel made to divert the flow of water from one course to another".
This is exactly what happens with professional hair care product.  It ends up on the black market and instead only being available to the consumer in the salon, it is available in drugstores and supermarkets.  Most of the time, when it ends up on the shelves of the supermarkets, it has been tampered with or the shelf life has expired.  After the product has been tampered with, bacteria can grow inside the bottle which is harmful to the clients health.  Make sure everyone who sits in your chair knows about the risks of buying product from a drug store and the benefits of buying it in the salon!

On the Floor:
I'm booked three weeks out so hurry in to see me for a cut, color or style before I graduate!  :)

In the Ops Room:
Wet set hair styling contest.  Brushed out a roller set into a cute side updo with pin curls and won!  Yay!

Friday, October 1

On the Floor:
Scissor over comb for the first time on the floor!  We don't do clipper over comb, so everything is done with shears.  Eek!  Talk about nerve wracking!  His hair was really thin so every hair was visible.  It took me a while, but I got it and he left happy :)

Product:
Awapuhi Wild Ginger Styling Oil:
I seriously can not get enough of this.  I haven't been very nice to my hair this year with all the lightening, but this product makes my hair soft, shiny and manageable.  It's great for clients with textured hair who want to smooth frizz.
                     Directions:
"Apply a small amount to clean, damp hair and style as usual, or smooth onto dry hair to tame and add shine".  Come in and pick some up today!

On the Floor:
Long day!  Day school from 830am to 430pm, then night school from 530pm to 930pm!  Feels good to work hard :)  Chi came back to see me for a highlight after I did her cut a couple weeks ago.  She is so happy with her color and booked with me again for another cut in another three weeks.

I recommended the new Awapuhi Wild Ginger Styling Oil for her and the last time she was in.  She's been using it every day and her hair feels amazing!  So glad shes happy with the product.

On the Floor:
Did a shampoo/blow dry for a woman taking her drivers license picture tomorrow.  She loved it so much that shes coming back to me in two weeks for another one!  I love making people happy :)

Tuesday, September 28

Pow Wow:
Focus of the week:
"When I repeat it, I mean it".
Studies show, if you say or do something three times, you are more likely to remember it.  Say the name of the product three times to your client, and put it in their hands when you are explaining to them how to use it, and your take home percentages will increase!

Makeup for Boris of Evolvh Organic Hair Care at a bridal show in Santa Clara this morning.
Showed up early and was the only makeup artist for almost two hours.  :)  Smokey eyes to match the beautiful saris that were being modeled.  The 20 or so girls were so sweet and appreciative of my work!  Handed out a ton of business cards and am looking forward to working with Boris again in the near future!

Design Team:
Stepping Out to Celebrate Life tonight at the Marin Civic Center  :)
Breast Cancer awareness runway show.  Most emotional event so far.  These women have overcome so much and to see them shine on the runway is beyond inspiring.  So touched to have been able to be a part of this.
...The fact that Sammy Hagar made a guest appearance doesn't hurt either :)

The Finale:
Our models, followed by their doctors, followed by the fabulous women who put on the show, followed by mimes and can-can dancers!
